The Field Scribe

Privacy Policy

What this covers

This policy describes the information The Field Scribe collects when you use the site, why it is collected, and the choices you control.

What you give us

Birth details. The date, time and place of birth you enter are used to calculate your reading. They are stored with the reading so it can be shown to you again, exported, and — once you have an account — kept in your library.

Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and the authentication record that lets you sign in. If you sign in with Google, we receive the account identifier and email address Google provides.

Purchases. If you buy a Full Reading, we store which reading it applies to, the amount, the currency and the payment status. Card details are entered with our payment provider and are never held by The Field Scribe.

Feedback. If you fill in a feedback form, we store what you wrote and which reading it was about.

Preferences and acknowledgements. We store your email-updates choice, your product-improvement choice, and a record that you acknowledged these documents — each with the wording version you were shown and when the choice was made.

Product analytics

We record how the product is used — which parts of a reading are opened, how long a reading is read for, which actions are taken — so we can see where the product is working and where it is not. This is handled separately from the optional Help shape The Field Scribe permission, and it is used to understand product usage in aggregate.

The optional product-improvement permission

Help shape The Field Scribe is an additional, optional permission. If you turn it on, you allow us to look more closely at material you deliberately provide — feedback you submit, portions of your reading when needed to evaluate the quality of the system, conversations you choose to have with future interactive features, and anything else you provide through research or feedback experiences — so we can improve the system and future offerings.

It is off unless you turn it on, it is not required for anything, and you can change it at any time in your Account settings. Turning it on does not subscribe you to email updates. We do not use this permission to make your private reading public or to sell your personal information.

Email

Account, sign-in, receipt and support messages are sent because they are necessary to run the service, and they are sent whatever your marketing choice is.

Email updates about new offerings are sent only if you asked for them. You can turn that off at any time in your Account settings, and turning it off stops those messages.

Who else is involved

The Field Scribe runs on third-party infrastructure. Our hosting and database provider stores the data described above; our payment provider processes payments; our email provider delivers messages; and parts of a Full Reading are generated with the help of a third-party language model, which receives the calculated Field Scribe structure needed to produce that text. These providers act for us in order to deliver the service.

We do not sell your personal information.

Keeping and removing information

A reading kept in your account is retained so you can return to it. A reading calculated without an account is held temporarily so you can claim it, and is removed after that window passes.

You can delete your account yourself from your Account settings. We first ask you to confirm your identity again, then the removal is carried out on our servers and continues even if you close the page. Deleting your account removes your readings, your feedback, your recorded activity, and your sign-in record. It cannot be undone.

Two things deliberately outlive the account. Purchase records are kept for accounting and tax purposes, with your identity removed from them. And if you had asked us not to email you, we keep a one-way reference derived from your email address — not the address itself — so that the request keeps being honoured after the account is gone. That reference cannot be read back as an email address.

Accounts with administrative responsibilities cannot be self-deleted; write to us and we will handle the request directly.

Your choices

You can view and change your email-updates and product-improvement choices in your Account settings at any time, and you can delete your account there. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
